FortifyFL
Help Keep Your School and Community Safe
FortifyFL is a mobile app and web-based tool that allows students, parents, and community members in Florida to anonymously report suspicious activities, potential threats, or safety concerns related to schools.
Reports are immediately forwarded to appropriate law enforcement agencies and school officials for rapid response, and some tips are sent directly to 911. FortifyFL was developed as part of Florida’s school safety initiatives following the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School tragedy in 2018. FLVS families and students are encouraged to download the FortifyFL app. It is available on the App Store and Google Play.
Information about FortifyFL is shared with students and families each year during FLVS Full Time Public Schools orientation and is included in the Full Time and Flex student and parent handbooks.
Submitting a Tip
Tips can be submitted from any computer at Get FortifyFL or through the FortifyFL app by providing:
- The name of the school
- Incident details
- A photo or video, if available
Individuals submitting a tip may choose to identify themselves or remain anonymous. When a name is provided, the individual’s identity remains confidential.
FortifyFL should be used only for reporting safety threats or concerning behavior. General school questions or issues should be directed to the School Safety and Discipline team.
Reports are shared with school officials, local law enforcement, and state-level officials.
Threats
Florida Statute 836.10 makes it illegal to send, post, or share any written or electronic threat to harm another person, commit a mass shooting, or commit an act of terrorism.
Threats can also be made through:
- Direct messages or posting on any social media platform
- Snapchat stories or messages
- Videos on platforms such as YouTube or TikTok
- Game servers or chats such as Discord, Stream, or Twitch
- Anonymous chat rooms or posting sites such as Whisper or Askfm
- Email, handwritten notes, verbal communication
Anyone who sees alarming content should report it directly rather than reposting or sharing it.
False Reporting
Consequences of making threats carry severe penalties, including arrest, school discipline, and expulsion. Refer to the Code of Conduct for more information.
If an investigation shows a person knowingly submitted a false tip through FortifyFL:
- Under Florida Statute 943.082, the IP address of the device used will be shared with law enforcement for further investigation.
- The individual may face criminal penalties under Florida Statute 837.05 for providing false information.
