What Are Gold Standard Career Pathways?

Gold Standard Career Pathways Articulation Agreements allow Florida high school students to earn college credit by completing approved Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses and passing the associated industry certification exam. This helps students start college with earned credit already and a stronger foundation for future success.

Get Ahead with CTE Courses:

  • Earn free college credit* through approved CTE programs.

  • Save time and money by starting your college journey early.

  • Build in-demand skills that connect directly to real careers.

  • Stand out on college and job applications with industry-recognized certifications.

*Students who earn an approved certification and enroll in the corresponding Associate in Science (AS) or Associate in Applied Science (AAS) program at a participating Florida State College are guaranteed to receive the corresponding college credit.

Example: A student who completes a high school cybersecurity program and earns a certification such as CompTIA Security+ can earn up to three college credits toward an approved AS degree at participating Florida State Colleges.

Frequently Asked Questions

Gold Standard Career Pathways Articulation Agreements allow eligible students who earn certain industry certifications through Career and Technical Education (CTE) Programs of Study to receive college credit toward specific Associate in Science (A.S.) or Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree programs at Florida College System institutions (state colleges).

Articulation credit eligibility depends on the industry certification earned, the student's college program, and current Florida Department of Education (FDOE) requirements. Students should consult their school counselor for guidance related to their individual educational plans.

These agreements can help students get a head start on college by turning qualifying industry certifications into college credit. This may help students complete their degree faster and potentially reduce college costs.

Yes. Florida's Gold Standard agreements are now recognized across the Florida College System, making it easier for Florida students to use their earned credits statewide.

To receive credit, a student must:

  • Earn an eligible industry certification.
  • Enroll in the specific A.S. or A.A.S. degree program identified in the agreement.
  • Attend a Florida College System institution (state college).
  • Provide documentation of the certification, such as an official transcript or certification award.

Gold Standard Articulation Agreements apply to eligible associate degree programs at Florida College System institutions (state colleges). They do not guarantee credit at the university level. Families should speak with a college advisor or counselor about transfer options after completing an associate degree.

Yes. Some industry certifications may support eligibility requirements for programs such as Florida's Bright Futures Gold Seal CAPE Scholarship. Families should work with their school counselor to understand current scholarship requirements and how a student's certifications may help support their postsecondary goals.

FLVS has articulation partnerships with institutions such as Polk State College and Lake-Sumter State College. These partnerships help create additional opportunities for students, while still allowing them to explore colleges throughout the Florida College System.
