Honoring Contributions, Celebrating Community

Each February, we observe Black History Month to honor the achievements and lasting contributions of Black leaders, innovators, and communities throughout history. This annual reconition provides an opportunity to reflect on important milestones, learn from inspiring stories, and recognize the impact these individuals have had on our nation and our state. By highlighting voices past and present, we seek to encourage understanding, promote respect, and strengthen unity across our school district community.

Webinar Series

Join us every Wednesday in February for a dynamic webinar series designed to spark conversation and connection. Each session will feature thought‑provoking speakers and engaging discussions that explore themes of history, culture, and progress. Whether you attend one or all, these webinars offer an opportunity to learn together, celebrate diversity, and carry forward the spirit of Black History Month in meaningful ways.

2027 webinar series details will be updated once we have additional information.

Statewide Art and Essay Contests

In celebration of Black History Month, the Florida Department of Education and Volunteer Florida invite students across the state to honor the achievements and lasting contributions of African Americans through annual art and essay contests.

Student Art Contest
Open to Florida students in kindergarten through grade 3, this contest encourages young artists to create original, two-dimensional artwork inspired by Black History Month.

Student Essay Contest
Open to students in grades 4–12 attending any Florida school, the essay contest invites students to reflect on the impact of African American leaders, history, and culture.

Deadline: TBD for 2027
