Florida Virtual School (FLVS) Full Time is enhancing how it connects with families across the state through a new approach to district communication, one that is already helping families stay more informed and engaged.
The District Insider, a quarterly publication for Florida Virtual Full Time Public Schools (FLVS Full Time), earned a Gold Award in the Special Purpose Publication category at the 2026 Sunshine Medallion Awards of Excellence, hosted by the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA).
The annual awards program recognizes outstanding achievement in school communications, marketing, and public relations. Gold Awards are presented to entries receiving the highest scores in each category, highlighting exemplary strategies that effectively engage school communities.
Launched at the start of the 2025-26 school year, the quarterly District Insider was designed to provide FLVS Full Time families with a clear, reliable source of district news, celebrations, and updates.
FLVS Full Time serves nearly 10,000 students and their families across the state in a virtual public school setting, where district-level communication provides a primary way for families to stay informed.
“Our families depend on clear, consistent communication to stay connected to their child’s school experience and success,” said Brett Cucuel, director of instruction. “The District Insider brings together key updates from across the district in one place, making it easier for families to stay informed.”
Developed through family feedback, communications audits, and strategic planning, the newsletter complements weekly school communications by focusing on broader district stories families value most. Each edition features student and staff spotlights, graduation highlights, legislative updates, organizational developments, and schoolwide achievements.
Built with a mobile-first, accessible design, the digital publication uses reader insights and analytics to guide content and improve engagement. Early results show strong readership, minimal opt-outs, and increased traffic to FLVS resources.
“This recognition reflects our ongoing work to improve how we communicate and support the overall experience for FLVS families,” said Kate Lysaught, senior director of marketing and communications. “It highlights our continued focus on making district information more accessible and easier to navigate.”
