Student Clubs FAQs

All of the meetings are online through Zoom, the same system you use for your live lessons and collaborations. The club sponsor will provide the password to attend the meetings. We can use the microphone, chat box, interactive whiteboard, and video to participate.

Sometimes! When our clubs compete, they meet in person. Other club meetings and events (including guest speakers, games, and other fun activities) are usually held online.

Yes, you must be actively taking at least ONE Florida Virtual School course to join a club.

We request that only Florida Virtual School club members attend meetings. However, you can tell them more about our school!

Our sponsors are teachers first and club sponsors second. You may have hit them during a busy time, so if you haven’t received any emails to the address you provided in your application, please reach out to the sponsor directly.

Various times! You’ll need to check with the club sponsor for the meeting date and time of the club you wish to join. Club meetings are very important for you to be involved in a club. If you are unable to attend meetings, let your club sponsor know!

We like to keep our records updated. Also, sometimes you find you’re not interested in the same clubs from year to year. This is the easiest way for us to keep up with all of your choices to provide you the best experience possible!

Please fill out the “Student Image and Name Opt-Out Form” in the Student and Parent Handbook. To find the most current version of the Handbook, look at the Quick Links on your Student Dashboard.

All of our clubs must have an academic basis. We cannot have any clubs that are dedicated to or support religious or political activities due to our school accreditation.

All of our clubs have websites that can help you stay on top of all that is going on with your club! Make sure you get that URL in your first meeting to stay involved!

Yes. Once you meet the requirements for the honor society you are a part of, you will be given or allowed to purchase graduation regalia.

We currently offer 14 clubs for the Elementary Program that provide unique social and academic opportunities depending on the specific club you choose to join. We look forward to you joining!

Most of our clubs are available to you! Honor societies are for high school students only though. Make sure you check the club information page for grade level postings.

Run for office! Elections are held for many of our clubs in the fall. Check your club to find out how to run. You must have been in the club for at least a year and currently enrolled in Florida Virtual School.

Absolutely. Our students are VERY competitive and do an amazing job at competitions! We place in quite a few district, state, and national competitions.

You don't have to participate in competitions to be in a club, but we'd love to have you there!

They're so much fun! Kids are chatting with each other and sharing information. Sponsors monitor activities and help support students as they work to achieve club goals. Ideas are shared, plans are made, fun is had–it’s a great time! For the link to your club meeting room, look for your welcome letter! It should have all the information you need to access the meetings.

We want you to join only three clubs to begin with because they take up so much time. If after you get settled, you want to join more, we welcome you to fill out the application again to add more clubs.

Most of our clubs just require a computer with speakers; however, some require a microphone so you can speak. Those clubs are marked on the application and on the club information site.

Yes! You need to get the form from your local high school and send it to your counselor/administrator.

We welcome students to create and present their own sessions! However, we encourage the student to discuss this option with the club sponsor. We will have a variety of events that will give students the opportunity to do so.

The majority of the events are done online and are therefore free! Just come and have fun with us! However, specific clubs do attend competitions and those will have various costs. Students will need to discuss this with the club sponsor.

This is a great way to check out Florida Virtual School and all that we have to offer each year! We will have students, counselors, teachers, and sponsors there to answer questions that you have about Florida Virtual School. Invite your friends!

You can earn service hours by completing various community service projects. Several clubs will offer opportunities such helping teachers, participating in school-wide events, and participating in panels.

News in a Click is an online newspaper, so new articles are added all the time! Keep your eye on the site! Virge, our literary magazine, is published twice a year—once in the fall and once in the spring. Our Full Time yearbook is available in the spring. Information will be posted on the website when it is available.

Each publication has different requirements for submission. Joining the staff of the yearbook and newspaper will get you involved in writing for these publications. If you’re interested in submitting to Virge Literary Magazine, please check the Virge page for more information.

Of course! Help out by joining the clubs for each of the publications if you're interested!

Club Rush FAQs

Club Rush is a virtual event that allows families to learn about the more than 80 clubs offered at Florida Virtual School. Club sponsors will briefly discuss their club, its activities, and any specific requirements needed to join, such as fees, equipment, and a minimum grade-point average (GPA).

Don’t worry! Club Rush will be recorded and available for viewing at a later time. It will be posted on the FLVS Clubs and Activities web page.

Visit the FLVS Clubs and Activities web page and scroll down to view the calendar. You can also access it by selecting “calendar” in the top navigation bar. The calendar lists club meetings and other student events.

With more than 80 clubs to choose from, Florida Virtual School offers a wide range of clubs, including:

  • Academic: Peer Tutors, Math club, and History club
  • Arts: Art club, Glee club, and Photography club
  • Athletic: Cheerleading club, Fit club, and Running club
  • Career-oriented: Health Occupations Student Association (HOSA), TV Production club, and Florida Future Educators of America (FFEA)
  • Honors: French Honor Society, National English Honor Society, and National Honor Society
  • Language: American Sign Language (ASL) club, French club, and Spanish club
  • Service: Teen Driving club and Hope Ambassadors club
  • Special interests: Chess club, Cooking club, and Gardening club
  • Technology: Robotics Club, eSports Video Game Club, and Coding Club

For a full list, please visit the FLVS Clubs and Activities web page and select the club(s) you are interested in to learn more.

Registration will open on Friday, September 6, at noon EST.  At this time, students can submit their applications with their preferred clubs.

Most clubs do not have any requirements other than an interest in the club’s activities. However, Honor Society clubs and competition clubs will have specific deadlines and requirements before a student may join. These specific requirements will be listed in the club description found on the club’s website.

While some clubs are exclusively for FLVS Full Time Public Schools students, most clubs are open to Full Time, FLVS Flex, and FlexPoint Virtual School students. The club description will indicate if a club is specific to Full Time or Flex students. You can use the Find a Club widget on the Clubs and Activities page to explore available clubs based on your program.

Elementary students are limited to two clubs. On the application, there is room for three clubs in the event that one of the clubs is at capacity.

Middle and high school students can sign up for one to four clubs.

Our priority is to ensure that all student members actively participate in their club meetings and activities while keeping up with their coursework. Clubs are an extension of their learning, offering valuable experiences and skill development. However, we also emphasize the importance of continuous progress in their FLVS courses. Balancing club involvement with academic responsibilities is key to a well-rounded and successful educational experience at FLVS.

If the club you are interested in is at capacity, students will be placed on a waiting list. However, students are encouraged to choose a different club that they might be interested in.

Meeting schedules vary by club. Some meet weekly, while others might meet bi-weekly or monthly. Information about meeting times will be available during Club Rush and on the club's page on the FLVS website.

  • Elementary clubs typically meet on the second and fourth Fridays of the month in the mornings. If the date falls on a holiday or other circumstances, the club sponsor will notify club members, and it will be posted on the specific club website.
  • Middle and High School meeting times vary. Clubs usually meet once a month unless they compete, perform, or are an Honor Society. These clubs may meet more than once a month. The schedule can be found on the club website calendar. Additional meeting details can be found on the specific club websites.

They're so much fun! Students chat with each other and share information. Club sponsors monitor activities and help support students as they work to achieve club goals. Ideas are shared, plans are made, fun is had – it’s a great time!

All of the club meetings are online through video conferencing, the same system students use for their live lessons and collaborations. The club sponsor will provide the password to attend the meetings. Club members then use the microphone, chat box, interactive whiteboard, and video to participate.

The club sponsors present various topics to the club members, including hydration, proper form, nutrition, stretching, and more. After students learn this information, they slowly start a “training schedule.”

For example, for the Run club, the training schedule may include walking/running with a parent and/or guardian. The distance students run will slowly increase as they continue to practice and implement all of the “good practice” skills and information learned during the club meetings. The goal is to move and enjoy being active with their family and eventually run/walk their first one-mile or five-kilometer event.

Cheerleading works in a similar manner. Club members learn the basic forms, nutrition, hydration, and stretching, and then, as a group, learn basic cheer movements. As the year progresses, club members combine everything they've learned into a fully formed cheer.

Clubs offer students the chance to develop leadership skills, collaborate with peers, explore new interests, and enhance their college applications. Participation in clubs can also provide a sense of community and belonging within the virtual school environment.

Attending club meetings does not count as service hours. However, students can earn service hours by completing various community service projects. Several clubs will offer opportunities such as helping teachers, participating in school-wide events, and participating in panels.
