Florida Virtual High School (FVHS) senior and Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) student Alvin Luu has been honored with the Youth in Philanthropy Award at the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Southwest Florida Chapter’s National Philanthropy Day Celebration. This prestigious honor celebrates Alvin’s efforts and dedication to creating positive change in his community.
From an early age, Alvin has demonstrated a passion for service and leadership. He is an active member of the Boys and Girls Club of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties, where he volunteers and serves on the National Keystone Steering Committee, a group of just 12 teens worldwide who help shape programs for Boys & Girls Clubs of America. In this role, Alvin contributes to project planning, delivers public speaking engagements, and offers strategic insights to guide national initiatives.
Driven by a commitment to closing the literacy gap, Alvin founded CLEAR Literacy, a nonprofit organization that provides free books to underserved families at Title 1 schools. His mission ensures that every child has access to the tools they need to succeed academically.
Alvin’s leadership also extends beyond his local community. This past summer, Alvin was selected from more than 12,000 applicants as one of only 300 students nationwide to join the Bank of America Student Leader program. Through this opportunity, Alvin completed a summer internship and attended a national leadership summit in Washington, D.C., where he represented the voices of Florida youth at the U.S. Capitol.
Adding to his impressive list of accomplishments, Alvin was appointed as the sole student board member for the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce. Serving alongside 39 other business leaders, Alvin brings a fresh perspective to the organization, which is more than 100 years old, ensuring that its programs and initiatives resonate with younger generations and foster community engagement.
Alvin’s story is a powerful example of how education and leadership can transform lives and communities. His achievements reflect the values of the Cambridge AICE program, which empowers students to think critically, act responsibly, and lead with purpose.
