Teen Driver Safety Week

Teen Driver Safety Week: Awareness in Action
National Teen Driver Safety Week, observed every October, shines a spotlight on the unique risks teen drivers face and encourages safer habits behind the wheel. Led by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and supported by Florida’s Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV), this initiative empowers families, educators, and students to take action.
Each year, according to FLHSMV, FLVS Teen Driver Safety Club hosts a series of events to raise awareness and promote safe driving. Teens aged 15-19 make up just 5% of licensed drivers in Florida, but account for over 11% of crashes.
In 2025, Teen Driver Safety Week is Oct. 19-25.

Turning Awareness into Action
The best way for new drivers to build smart, safe habits behind the wheel is through personalized instruction, and that's exactly what students receive from the FLVS Driver Education course. More than 900,000 Florida teens have successfully completed the course, gaining the knowledge and confidence they need to drive responsibly.
Designed for students ages 14.5 to 17, the course is also state-approved and meets the new requirement for teens pursuing a Florida learner's license. It covers essential safety skills, traffic laws, and responsible decision-making behind the wheel. Students who complete the course earn 0.5 high school elective credit.
