Lessons from The Most Challenging School Year

When COVID-19 shut the world down, schools and districts didn’t get a break. They rallied together to serve students, support teachers, and create a lasting impact.
Here are lessons from school districts across the country.
Lesson 1: Keeping Students in One of America’s Most Rural School Districts Learning During a Pandemic
In March 2020, FlexPoint helped launch Alaska’s first statewide, Kindergarten-12th online program in just two weeks. FlexPoint was able to quickly support the launch of Alaska State Virtual School by utilizing its national tuition-based school. This gave the state an extensive offering of digital courses via an easy-to-use online learning platform, certified instructors, and a safe online learning option that was open to each of the state’s Kindergarten-12th grade students amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following a successful spring launch, FlexPoint quickly got to work to continue supporting AK DEED through the 2020-21 school year. This included continuing to license its digital curriculum for students at all levels and hosting intensive teacher training for more than 190 teachers and administrators in the state. An effort that supported more than 2,200 Kindergarten-12th grade students during the 2020-21 school year. Keeping students learning when they needed it most.
Lesson 2: Eliminating Online Learning Pain Points for Michigan’s Education Leaders
When the COVID-19 pandemic forced Grand Ledge Public Schools (GLPS) to start the 2020-21 school year remotely—they knew the right technology and online learning partner were the solutions they needed.
So, GLPS partnered with FlexPoint to provide the entire school district’s 5,000+ Kindergarten-12th grade students, with an online learning option during the pandemic. By utilizing FlexPoint’s hosted learning management system (LMS) and customizable digital courses, GLPS was able to serve all of its students, safely and effectively.
Throughout the school year, the district saw high engagement levels and averaged a 94.8% participation rate. Impressed by the student engagement and course offerings, GLPS continued its partnership with FlexPoint, even after returning to an in-person model, by licensing digital courses in specific subject areas.
Lesson 3: There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to educating students during a pandemic—or any crisis
There’s no blueprint for how to keep students learning during a global pandemic. But by selecting the right tools, asking the right questions, and finding the right partner you can build your own path to success.
