M/J Language Arts 1

In this course, students will read short stories and novels, listen to music, read newspapers, and even interview their parents. They will also learn to write interesting stories of their own.

M/J Language Arts 2

In this course, students will read, listen, and analyze stories. They will read various texts, such as newspapers and novels, in addition to discovering their own ability to write.

M/J Language Arts 3

The purpose of this course is to give students the tools to understand and express themselves through writing. By the end of the course, students will have completed a portfolio of their original writings.

M/J Mathematics 1

This course is packed with games that reinforce and practice math skills. Students will have opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge of number manipulation by applying them to real world scenarios.

M/J Mathematics 2

This course gives plenty of opportunity to create, investigate, and demonstrate student knowledge through animations, applications, videos, games, and real world scenarios.

M/J Mathematics 3

Students will love this hands-on math course. Through engaging exercises and assessments students will gain a true understanding of higher-level concepts, such as systems of equations and central tendencies.

M/J Comprehensive Science 1

This course provides an introduction to science with a focus on energy, force, weather, climate, Earth’s systems, and living organisms. Some topics are explored in depth while others are introduced to serve as building blocks for Comprehensive Science 2 and 3.

M/J Comprehensive Science 2

In this course, students explore the foundations of science, energy, Earth and it’s features; Earth’s internal and external structures and how they change; Earth’s history, living things, and how they change and interact; and genetics, heredity, and the organization of living organisms.

M/J Comprehensive Science 3

The course introduces new information and reviews some science basics to prepare students for high school science coursework. Topics covered in this course include: the nature of science, Earth and space science, properties of matter, changes in matter, matter and energy, and energy flow.

M/J World History

From ancient Mesopotamia to China and its ancient dynasties, different civilizations left their mark on history. They also left their mark on how we live today. In this course, students will become a quiz show contestant, traveling back to these ancient civilizations to dig out the facts.

M/J Civics

In this course, students will research the cultural and natural landscapes of the regions they visit. They will then design their own theme park offering a multicultural understanding of our world’s diverse people and places.

M/J U.S. History

In this course, students will discover that history is full of adventure, colorful characters, and complex plots. Each complex plot will be different, and will highlight an important story from our nation’s past.

Algebra I

This course contains the basic knowledge students need for all high school math courses. Students will understand the practical use of algebra with hundreds of real-world examples.

M/J Career Education

This course will help students become goal oriented and develop an understanding about making informed career decisions. Throughout this course, students will participate in several self-assessment activities to help become more aware of their interests, values, and skills.

M/J Comprehensive PE – Grades 6/7

In this course, students will reach new levels of fitness through sports, dance, aquatics, and more! A friendly cast of course characters will help guide and enhance their experience. Students will learn safety rules for exercises to improve their skills, how different activities target different parts of their body, and how to reach new goals.

M/J Comprehensive PE – Grades 7/8

This course will provide students practice in game strategy, sport skills, and performance. Students will discover the diversity of sports, nutrition, and peer pressure, while learning how to make effective decisions.

M/J Fitness – Grade 6

In this course, students will meet a crew of virtual characters that will help them explore health and understand fitness. Among them is Coach Cardio, who will help students measure their growing fitness level by learning to keep their bodies physically fit. Students will complete various projects as they learn about themselves, fitness, and the world around them.

M/J Critical Thinking, Problem Solving and Learning

This course will teach students how to find important information quickly, transfer it from short to long term memory, and perform better on assignments and tests. This course will teach students to become efficient learners to find a balance, and prioritize their short and long term goals.

M/J Keyboarding

This course will give students the coaching needed to become a keyboarding master. With special downloadable software, they will gain typing speed while learning proper technique.

M/J Orientation to Art 2-D

In this course, students will experience the creative processes used by all artists. They will learn how to analyze, interpret and evaluate art. At the end of this course, they will have a portfolio of work that demonstrates their own skill and creativity as an artist.

M/J Reading I

In this course, students will read a variety of interesting stories, watch videos, and participate in class activities. Through fiction, nonfiction, and poetry students will learn new vocabulary and comprehension skills.

M/J Spanish Beginning

In this course, students will learn basic Spanish phrases and vocabulary through interactive lessons that will include images, recordings, and videos.

M/J Spanish Intermediate

In this course, students will be taking a journey with our student traveler, Cristina to Spain, Puerto Rico, Colombia, and Argentina. Cristina will share her experiences as students learn how to speak Spanish in many useful situations. New words and phrases will be introduced with pictures, audio clips, and videos. Students will learn how to greet people, introduce themselves, speak about their family, home, food, sports, etc, through interactive activities, reading, writing, listening, and speaking exercises.

Students that need an individualized academic plan should contact their school counselor. Remember, there are many different options when choosing the best courses for you. You may decide you like two science courses or two language courses. Any course that you do not take to fulfill a subject requirement can still be taken as an elective!
