Top Ten Tips for Online Success

1. Stay on pace: It is very, very important for you to stay on pace to finish the course on time. Wise time management is essential for successful course completion. Your pace chart is your guide for successful course completion. Please remember that you must stay on pace each week (or work ahead of pace) to stay in good standing in the course.

2. Remember: good communication is essential to succeeding in an online course. You must also take responsibility for your questions and concerns. Be proactive; email or call your teacher when you need help.

3. Make a definite schedule for your class work each week. Students who are the most successful set time aside each week for course work. You should schedule your hours for course work at the start of each week.

4. Check your email frequently (at least every two days). This is essential for staying well informed!

5. Sign your first and last name on all emails you send to your teacher. This is very important, so that your teacher can respond in a timely manner.

6. Remember to use the Orientation area in the course if you need a friendly reminder about turning in work, attaching files, updating your profile, participating in a chat/discussion, or checking your grade. This is a very helpful tool.

7. Read your teacher's comments on each graded assignment. You will find these by choosing "Gradebook" from your left-side navigation bar, and then selecting the graded assignment you wish to view. Teachers will spend hours and hours each week grading student work and they expect you to read the comments, so that you can have maximum feedback on each assignment.

8. Keep up to date with your Module organizers and notes. These will be important for grade purposes and for studying for the final exam.

9. Don't be afraid to work ahead! If you have extra time in a given week, use your time wisely and get a head start on your work for the following week. Working ahead will allow you to finish the course earlier than expected. You may work ahead at any point; feel free to talk to your teacher about this option.

10. Keep a sense of humor, and enjoy the adventure!
