Academic Planning in Florida’s Middle Schools
These plans are provided to assist students in seeking proper placement for course selections. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to check with their local school district to ensure that the student will receive appropriate credit for courses taken through FLVS. Districts have specific policies regarding students earning credits for high school courses when taken prior to 9th grade.
It is imperative to review policies in your district regarding the approval of, issuance of and/or transfer of credit(s) to the local school system. If a student cannot earn high school credit for the course in his or her district, FLVS will be unable to enroll the student in our high school credit program. This is particularly important for home-educated students in order to ensure that they will receive the proper credit. If the home-educated students subsequently transfer to a public school, the grade level proclaimed will follow the student.
Our guidance department provides the following recommendations based on student grade levels. Please be advised that each course may take up to 5-7 hours a week to complete. Full credit classes traditionally take 36 weeks to complete; while half credit courses traditionally take 18 weeks to complete. It is the responsibility of home-schooled parents/guardians to ensure that the student's educational program will fulfill future requirements in regards to their post-secondary education. FLVS may deny enrollment for students who do not meet appropriate placement criteria such as grade level, age, and course prerequisites.
