When Should You Start Preparing for Life after High School?
When you're in middle school, high school graduation seems an eternity away, but it really isn't. A few planning steps now will get you off to a good start.
Florida Students:
- Check out www.FACTS.org —and excellent site for career and training information. FACTS.org will help you plan which courses to take in high school.
- Decide which high school graduation option you will select. There are three graduation options in Florida. Start planning your 9th grade class schedule. Consider your academic strengths, your goals after high school, and your career interests when selecting your program of study. FACTS.org can help you sort through all of these questions.
All Students:
- Take Algebra I, foreign language and computer courses in the 8th grade to better prepare for state university admission requirements and Advanced Placement (AP), dual enrollment, or International Baccalaureate (IB) courses in high school.
- Take advantage of the services of your guidance counselor to help you make these plans.
- Check out career planning web sites to narrow your interests.
