What academic requirements do middle school students need to meet?
The Florida 2006 Legislature passed House Bill 7087 (A++ Plan). With it came the revision of middle school promotion to high school requirements. Beginning with students entering the 6th grade this 2006-2007 school year all students must earn the following credits in order to be promoted to the 9th grade.
- · 3 middle school or higher courses in English.
- · 3 middle school or higher courses in Mathematics.
- · 3 middle school or higher courses in Social Studies, one semester of which must include the study of state and federal government and civics education.
- · 3 middle school or higher courses in Science.
- · 1 semester long course in career and education planning to be completed in 7th or 8th grade.

What courses do you offer, and who can take them?
FLVS courses were aligned to state and national standards and were designed to reflect intellectual and developmental expectations.
Middle school courses are available in visual arts, computer education, foreign languages (middle and high-school level), language arts, mathematics, research and critical thinking, science, and social studies. Click here for a complete course list.
Whether you are from Florida or from any other state or country, you can take middle school courses at FLVS.
When registering for courses, be sure to state the grade level you will be in during the semester for which you are requesting a course.
Can I take high school courses while in middle school?
Middle school students considering taking high school level courses need to meet pre-requisite requirements.
Middle school students are eligible for all middle school courses regardless of grade level. Middle school students may progress in high school level science, foreign language, computer science and math (with the exception of Algebra 1A and 1B.) High school students will be given priority for placement.
