The FLVS International Club

Are you looking for a different and exciting student experience? Do you like meeting new and interesting people? Does the idea of expanding your horizons into the global community sound interesting to you?

Then you may want to join the FLVS International Club. The FLVS International Club is dedicated to promoting a greater sense of connection with people from other cultures. Activities of this club are designed to celebrate and promote an understanding and respect for the diverse cultures, languages, and heritages of the students in our school, local communities, and beyond. The club sponsors special projects such as the Armenia School Connectivity Program, Epals, EF Global Citizen Award and the opportunity to participate in international field trips. To be listed as an official member, please send an email expressing your desire to join the FLVS International Club to one of the club advisors listed below. Be sure to include your name, email address and course(s) you are currently enrolled in at FLVS.

Send membership requests to:
Mrs. Colleen Brandao at cbrandao@flvs.net
Mrs. Julia Maccarone at jmaccarone@flvs.net

Newspaper Club Information

As most everyone knows, a typical high school has a newspaper that is published by its students. Why should FLVS be any different? We certainly have stories to tell. Our students come from a variety of interesting backgrounds. Plus, we have the advantage of lots of technology!

If you’re interested in helping us produce our newspaper, send an e-mail to Cindy Knoblauch. Tell about any experience you may have working on a newspaper staff (although experience is not required!) and what your areas of interest are. Do you like to write? Do you like to draw? How do you see yourself helping with our newspaper?

Junior Classical League Club Information

The FLVS Junior Classical League (Latin Club) is open to all students who enroll in Latin. All Latin students are encouraged to join!  Members have the opportunity to compete on the regional and state levels against students from all over Florida.  The JCL provides leadership and scholarship opportunities on local, state, and national levels.

By joining the FLVS JCL, students automatically become part of the National Junior Classical League.   There are over 50,000 members in approximately 1,200 chapters, located in almost every state and in several foreign countries. Established in 1936, the organization seeks to promote the study of Latin and Greek, to benefit students and teachers alike, and to impart an understanding of the debt of our own culture to that of classical antiquity

For more information, contact club sponsor, Dara Taylor.

History Club

Do you enjoy History?  Join the Florida Virtual School History Club!  We are forming a chapter of the National History Club and are planning activities like field trips to historical sites, book and movie discussion groups, talks with authors and historians, and more.  Are you interested in competing in the Florida History Fair and National History Day?  You will have that opportunity through the History Club.

Send membership requests to:
Mrs. Jodi Ferber: JFerber@flvs.net or
Mrs. Christina Cerrato: CCerrato@flvs.net

FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America)

The FBLA is a club that is open to all FLVS students who are enrolled in a business class. It is the oldest and largest national organization for students preparing for careers in business leadership. FBLA prepares students for “real world” professional experiences. More than a quarter of a million students in 6,000 schools participate in this organization.

FBLA provides travel opportunities, challenging competitions, scholarships and prizes, leadership development, community service experience, friendship, and fun. For further information, please contact Ann McDermott.

National English Honor Society

The only online chapter of the National English Honor Sociey, the FLVS Cyber Scholar Chapter, is open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have completed one semester of study (in at least one course), and who have an overall GPA of 3.0. Oh, of course you must have a love for the English language arts. This is a club like and unlike any other: our service project is the online mentoring of FLVS students taking sophomore English. Be a part of history and participate in an area you love by doing work you love. The rewards are literary and personal.

If this strikes your fancy, please complete the NEHS Application and e-mail to Mary Swenson. Upon acceptance into NEHS, you can quickly get to work in service and get to enjoy the camaraderie of like students. For more information, please contact Ms. Swenson at mswenson@flvs.net.
