3.11 How Can We Clean Up an Oil Spill?
|
Yuck, what is that black sludge in the water? One of the crew members says it is oil that probably spilled from a large tanker or freighter moving through the shipping lanes across the Atlantic. Oil is one of the worst pollutants and is usually not even seen. Most oil comes not from large spills, but from small spills where tankers have small leaks, or in transfer from vessel to vessel or in ports. The oil will end up in clumps on the ocean floor, in slicks across the surface of the ocean, or washed up on shore. What can we do to clean up the oil we found? Follow the link below to find out different methods for cleaning up oil spills. |
