You are going to do some research on the business-related occupation that you find most interesting and the one that you might like to pursue after graduating from high school or college. Then you will write a 1-2 page report describing your chosen occupation.

You will research this occupation and include the following in your report:

  • A general job description that details what one does in this occupation
  • Training and qualifications
  • Working conditions
  • Earnings
  • Employment opportunities
  • Advancement opportunities
  • Job outlook
  • Why you selected this occupation to research

Here are a few recommended sites to help you get started:

Howard Community College's Career Planning site provides links to useful information on occupations.

The online Occupational Outlook Handbook is an excellent resource for gathering information on specific occupations.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics Career Information Home Page contains much valuable information.

Find further information at America's CareerInfoNet.

Job Star — Guides for Specific Careers contains excellent information.

Please follow these guidelines:

  1. Compose a standard unbound report using Microsoft Word. There is a document in the OCI Handbook which summarizes the proper formatting. It is suggested that you print the report formatting document from the OCI Handbook and put it into your notebook. That will provide you with a ready resource when you want to do another report.

  2. Your report should be at least one page but no longer than two pages in length. It should be double spaced.

  3. You should supply an appropriate title. The first page should not be numbered. (Be sure to use the page numbering option of MS Word.)

  4. Be sure to save your file as yourlastnameJob81.

  5. Print a copy for your policy manual/notebook.
