Florida Virtual School Receives Prestigious 21st Century Award for Best Practice in Distance Learning by International Association
Top Educators at FLVS Appointed to the Board of Directors for USDLA, a premier distance learning association
ORLANDO, FL (May 10, 2007) – Florida Virtual School (FLVS), a national leader in developing and providing virtual K-12 education solutions, received the 2007 21st Century Award for Best Practices in Distance Education from the United State Distance Learning Association (USDLA). The prestigious USDLA award was presented to FLVS for the school’s development of Virtual School Administrator, an industry-leading performance management tool. In bestowing this award upon FLVS, the school was also recognized for its 10-years of commitment in developing award-winning curriculum and for its contributions to the academic and technological innovations in K-12 virtual education.
“This award is a reflection of the dedicated, talented and committed team at FLVS who work daily to raise the bar and exceed best practice expectations,” said FLVS President and CEO Julie Young. “At FLVS we are singularly focused on the need of the students. Two top FLVS educators were also recognized for their foresight in promoting the growth and shaping the future of virtual education. FLVS’s Young (Orlando, FL) was elected to the post of President-Elect for USDLA where she will continue her leadership role in shaping policies to foster innovation in education. FLVS Chief Operating Officer Pam Birtolo (Flagler Beach, FL) won her first-term on USDLA’s national board. Upon receiving news of the new USDLA Board members, Birtolo commented, “Throughout my career in education, I have maintained one belief that a quality education stems from a commitment and passion to excellence in learning – something that is best achieved through innovative leaders. I look forward to working with my colleagues at USDLA on developing strategies for how online learning can contribute to the transformation of our education system.”
