The Florida Learning Alliance (FLA) was created in 1998 by the three regional consortia that represent the 33 rural school districts and the Florida Virtual School
(FLVS). The mission of the Florida Learning Alliance (FLA) is to increase academic achievement for students in rural and small school districts represented by Heartland Educational Consortium, North East Florida Educational Consortium, and Panhandle Area Educational Consortium through distance learning and other innovative educational strategies.

FLVS is partnering with the University of Central Florida Institute for Simulation & Training to participate in a pilot of My Sports Pulse™. My Sports Pulse is a global program designed to promote student achievement and interest in Science and Math disciplines using sports themed scenarios delivered via Mobile Phones.
Florida Virtual School and the Digital Divide Council work closely together to ensure that technology is being properly dispersed to those in need across the state. The founder of the Digital Divide Council, Representative Ed Jennings, has taken a personal interest in FLVS and what the school has to offer. He believes that bridging the digital divide is the highest priority in enhancing educational attainment and improving our states workforce. Representative Jennings has stated publicly that, “Florida Virtual School is a bridge between disadvantaged parents and children that link them to opportunities such as improving the educational success of kids in K-12 while simultaneously improving the workforce opportunities of their parents.”
The Digital Divide Council currently has six pilot projects that are also coordinating with the Florida Department of Education’s Family Literacy Program and Family Literacy Centers. Florida Virtual School is actively participating in all of these efforts as well as the Front Porch Florida Program. Florida Virtual has been named in many of the proposals as a solution to address educational deficits in high school children as well as adults through GED training and providing access to better academic programs that are helping to raise FCAT scores.
If you would like any further information on these programs and Florida Virtual School's involvement, please contact Michelle Kinley, e-learning Manager.
