Jennifer Whiting

There is great satisfaction in knowing how things work. It is one of the reasons that people become scientists. There is also great reward in helping students figure out how things work for themselves. That is one of the reasons that people become teachers. When Jennifer Whiting taught science, she showed students how precise observation and thoughtful analysis combined with curiosity and creativity to produce effective learning.
Ms. Whiting’s creative approach to learning continues today as the chief academic officer of Florida Virtual School.
After several years as a middle school and high school teacher in a traditional classroom setting, Ms. Whiting joined FLVS in 1997. FLVS had just been created, and needed experienced teachers who could both develop and teach new courses. Her chemistry course was the first offered by FLVS.
Over the years, Ms. Whiting’s responsibilities have progressively increased. She assumed roles as an instructional design specialist, project manager of large instructional technology projects, and director of information systems responsible for her school’s information technology infrastructure. Today as her school chief academic officer, she oversees the development, maintenance and upgrading of FLVS course content and curriculum resources. Additionally, she is responsible for the professional development of all FLVS faculty and staff, in addition to her school’s external clients.
Ms. Whiting is committed to maintaining her school’s pioneering spirit by keeping it on the cutting edge of technology and effective pedagogy. She is equally committed to keeping the needs of students at the center of her school’s focus and attention. With creativity and well-planned execution, Ms. Whiting continues to ensure a productive educational experience for her school’s faculty, staff and students.
Ms. Whiting earned her Masters of Science degree in Instructional Technology and Distance Education from Nova Southeastern University. Her Bachelor of Science degree with Honors in Physics and Education was awarded by the Florida Institute of Technology.
