Cooney World Adventure
We all occasionally dream about selling everything and moving to a tropical
island. Most of the time, those thoughts come out of a day of frustration.
But what if you could actually do it? What if you really did pick up a
phone and call a realtor to start the process of selling your house? What
if you had a big garage sale and sold everything? If you are a teenager
still living at home, imagine if your Mom or Dad came home and said, "Why
don't we sell everything and just travel around the world?" Would you
think your parents were crazy, or would that sound like a great idea?
That's exactly what one Florida Virtual School family has decided to do.
The Cooney family has been planning an around-the-world, one-year trip for
a number of months now. The house is on the market, and they will begin
their world wide adventures sometime in late spring or early summer. Mike
and Catrell Cooney, along with their boys Morgan, Zach, and Harrison, will
begin their journey in Central and South America. In the fall of '08, they
plan to be in Africa. By the time '09 rolls around, they will be in
Australia and New Zealand. The trip will continue to Europe and end in
Asia by the summer of '09.
For us here at Florida Virtual School, the very coolest part of the Cooney
adventure is the fact that we get to go with them! The Cooney family
invites FLVS students and teachers to interact with the people they are
meeting along the way, to learn about their cultures, languages, foods,
what their schools are like, their daily lives, and their hopes and dreams.
As the Cooney Family travels around the world, we plan to work with them in
a variety of ways. Our primary objective is to provide global educational
opportunities for our students and students around the world. Florida
Virtual School is proud to partner with the Cooney family on this
fascinating learning experience that includes their family and ours.
