“Experience Being a Virtual Student,” Challenges FLVS
Legislator’s Course Gives National, State and Local Leaders a New Look at Online Education
Orlando , FL – The Florida Virtual School is taking a novel approach to bringing change to education – inviting legislators to become students. This spring, FLVS began offering a mini-course providing elected officials with a first-hand look the school’s high-quality curriculum, individualized instruction and proven approach to helping students achieve educational goals.
“We know that improving the quality of education is a top priority for state and national leaders, and recognize there are many ways to achieve our various goals,” said Bruce Friend, Chief Administrative Officer, FLVS. “Our goal, in developing this course, is introduce decision-makers to virtual learning. We encourage our nation’s public policy makers to step into the shoes of today’s students and experience an online course.”
Participants can either register for a mini-course or explore the FLVS curriculum. The mini-course is facilitated by a certified FLVS instructor, who will provide feedback and support. The course can be accessed leisurely—24 hours a day—any day of the week. All instruction is delivered via the Internet, providing participants a first-hand online student experience. Upon achievement of course requirements, participants will receive a certificate of completion.
Alternatively, they may also register with FLVS to explore an FLVS online American Government course without an instructor. This option will enable elected officials the opportunity to simply review the curriculum material for this popular FLVS course at your leisure—24 hours a day—any day of the week, during a 2-week time period. Registration is online at: http://notes.flvs.net/amgovleg.nsf/registration?open .
