George Latimer

Even before there were Excel spreadsheets, George Latimer made sure that the finances of several school districts in Florida were well managed. Today, he is helping to create sound financial structures and processes that will carry Florida Virtual School securely into the technological future.
Before coming to FLVS, Mr. Latimer served as Associate Superintendent of Schools for Duval County, Deputy Superintendent of Schools in Broward County, Director of Budget and Finance in Manatee County, and Director of Business Services in DeSoto County. During that time, he held the highest offices in several professional organizations. Mr. Latimer is also proud of his roots in the classroom, having served as a Physical Education and Driver Education teacher, later becoming a school administrator.
At FLVS, the areas of budget, payroll, accounting and purchasing fall under Mr. Latimer’s direction. During a time of significant growth for FLVS, Mr. Latimer is implementing improvements to his school’s financial reporting and budgeting processes. He is also implementing an integrated system for accounting, payroll and personnel. The ultimate goal is the installation of a comprehensive business intelligence model that will support strategic decision-making.
From the perspective of his thirty-eight-year career, Mr. Latimer believes that FLVS is a leader in educational accountability, having chosen to receive state funding only for successfully completed coursework by students. He believes it is a funding formula that drives performance while providing real incentives for innovation and customer service.
Mr. Latimer earned his Masters Degree in Administration Supervision from Southeastern Louisiana University, and his Bachelors Degree in Health and Physical Education from the University of Southern Mississippi.
