Ten years ago, Florida Virtual School was created to serve the needs of students. Today, that mission has only grown stronger, as evident in the words of the News in a Click staff.

FLVS means so much to me in many ways. It allows me to be home schooled in a different and unique way and expand my learning possibilities. It offers a lot of great classes that kids in traditional schools and kids who are home-schooled can take together. Also, I can meet a lot of new people whom I can chat through in a friendly, online environment. I think that FLVS has been a huge help to millions of kids who want a good, friendly school to go to!

Ever since I joined FLVS, I have pulled up my grades as well as getting the courage to ask my teachers as many questions as I have. Overall, FLVS has helped me academically as well as physically. Being homeschooled my entire life, my family has tried a lot of different curriculums; FLVS has been one of the best, and my personal favorite. Since I want to be a writer, the News in a Click newspaper club is an amazing help with that, the students are wonderful and all of the staff are so nice. FLVS is great for my family - we're always busy and our schedule is SO confusing sometimes [probably mostly because we don't HAVE a set schedule], so with FLVS being so flexible, it's much help for us. Go FLVS!

FLVS has helped me realize that time management is crucial for success, not just in school, but in the workplace as well. Nowadays, students are taking on so much (ie. AP classes, clubs, sports, work, and so on), and if they don't plan out their time accurately, then they are going to feel overwhelmed and not do anything. What's so great about FLVS is that you can work at your own pace. When you get something wrong the teachers are right there always willing to help you, whether it's the question you got wrong or it's helping you get back on pace. The teachers make you feel like you’re the only one student there because they take time and help you out. They will keep going over something until you understand it.

I’ve been home schooled my entire life, so FLVS has been a great way for me to take high school courses and still be able to pursue my interests and other classes. I feel that I have gained a sense of responsibility for my own success and education. With the help and support of my teachers, I’ve learned to communicate better, to persevere, and to set goals. FLVS means a lot to me. It has helped me graduate on time. The last school I was at before attending my current high school was not accredited, so without FLVS I would have had to stay for one more year to finish up the English credit that I took at FLVS. FLVS lets me work faster on courses that I excel at (like technological courses). It also makes more sense to take technical courses like web design at FLVS compared to a traditional high school. It's also a bit easier to understand and work without sacrificing content. I really like the “at your own pace and own time” themes. This way if I'm up at 2 a.m. and feel like doing a ton of FLVS course work, I can! Try that at a traditional High School!                Joshua Ward
