What is an ELC?
An e-Learning Center (ELC) is a great opportunity for schools and districts to provide engaging curriculum with highly qualified instructors to students without the expense of hiring a teacher for a small number of students and purchasing instructional materials for those students. The ELC process streamlines the registration process for your ELC students, which allows them to be placed quickly and efficiently.The ELC can be set up for one subject or a mixture of subjects during the same period taken in the school computer lab. There is no cost to the district for the FLVS course if the lab operates after school, or during the summer break.
Why set up an ELC?
For example, if a school had six students requesting physics, setting up an ELC on campus would be a way to accommodate those students without the expense of hiring an instructor for a small section of students.
How does it work?

- Placement of ELC students taking the same course with the same FLVS instructor, if at all possible.
- Placement of ELC students on the same date.
- Free, online training for the ELC school facilitator.
- Support from an FLVS instructor and/or Regional Liaison.
- Highly qualified instructors certified in the field being taught.
- Engaging curriculum with highly involved instructors.
- Face-to-face visit by an FLVS instructor or ambassador to get the students off to a good start.

- List of students (minimum of 5 students) and courses to be taken at least two weeks prior to desired start date.
- Facilitator to monitor students -- does not have to be a certified instructor.
- Access to computers and other technology required for the students to take the courses at school.

Do you have several students taking FLVS courses in a computer lab? Florida Virtual School offers FREE lab facilitator training for your lab managers (FL Districts Only). The online training, combined with ongoing assistance as needed, provides all the tools you need to provide students with a seamless instructional experience.
Lab Managers learn to:
- help students troubleshoot minor problems
- facilitate smooth interactions between FLVS instructors and students
- prevent academic integrity problems
- facilitate interactions with FLVS and the local school
