Description:	This course is intended for students in grades 9-12. Have you ever wondered about the origins of human beings? Or questioned why there are sometimes large differences between cultures? Anthropology helps you to understand how human beings have evolved both biologically and culturally, and why they have taken on their unique characteristics. In this course, you will learn about different types of religious behavior, social organization, and settlement patterns. You will also learn how anthropologists investigate both past and present human populations as you explore the human fossil record and artifact dating techniques. If you want to understand how and why humans look and behave the way they do, and also learn to appreciate the differences between various cultures, then Anthropology is the course for you! The content should include, but not be limited to, the following: - Human biological origins - Human cultural origins - Evolution of language and its role in the development of culture - Function of religion within culture - Diversity of human cultures over time - Patterns of social organization (e.g. family and kinship patterns) - Patterns of food production and impact of the development of agriculture Access the Florida Course Code directory for more information.

Course Assessment and Participation Requirements:	Besides engaging students in challenging curriculum, FLVS guides students to reflect on their learning and to evaluate their progress through a variety of assessments. Participation is required on text based questions, Anthropology lab questions, discussion questions and postings to public forums, as well as on assessments. Assessments are in the form of multiple-choice questions, short-answer questions. Instructors evaluate progress and provide interventions through the variety of assessments built into a course, as well as through contact with the student in other venues. In addition, the primary emphasis of this course is to help students develop an understanding of concepts rather than memorize terms and technical details; the ultimate goal is to provide students an opportunity to earn an elective credit through interaction with engaging content.
