Segment 1:

  • Creating a Nation – including the Revolutionary War, foundations of democracy, creating an American government, expanding the nation, settling the west, Native Americans, the young republic
  • A Nation Divided – including slavery, the abolitionist movement, territorial issues, the Union dissolves, North v. South, life during the Civil War, the Reconstruction debate
  • Impact of Economic Expansion – including technical innovations, big business and labor, immigration and city life, farmers protest, Progressive movement
  • Civil Rights – including post-Reconstruction South, civil rights and society, civil rights leaders, civil rights legislation
  • Boom and Bust – including the Roaring 20s, culture clash of the 1920s, politics and economics, causes of the Great Depression, life during the Depression, Roosevelt and the New Deal

Segment 2:

  • Rise of a World Power – including imperialism, Spanish-American War, WWI, interwar period, Causes of WWII, America’s involvement in WWII
  • Cold War Conflict – including foundations of the Cold War, Korean War, arms race, espionage, Cuba, Berlin, Space Race
  • Social Revolution – including post-war changes in America, 1950s, 1960s, Vietnam War
  • Domestic Changes – including US economy, society, technology, and global economy.
  • Global Society – including end of the Cold War, US as a world leader, foundation of Middle Eastern issues, US involvement in the Middle East, war on terror
