“Communication is my number one priority,” says Yoany Beldarrain, a multilingual teacher with more than fifteen years of experience. Throughout her career, she has committed herself to building trusting relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. As an Instructional Leader at Florida Virtual, Ms. Beldarrain values the contributions of each team member and believes in empowering them to become agents of change. Fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, Ms. Beldarrain is particularly interested in affirming each student’s cultural heritage and preparing them to be global citizens.
Ms. Beldarrain’s teaching experience ranges from kindergarten through high school, as well as college level. In addition to her classroom experience, Ms. Beldarrain served Brevard County Public Schools as Curriculum Coordinator at Freedom 7 Elementary School of International Studies, where she implemented the International Baccalaureate/Primary Years Program along with a school-wide Spanish curriculum that served as a model for instruction throughout her school district. Additional recognitions include a Fulbright-Hays Scholarship in connection with the University of Central Florida ’s Bolivia Project, and a scholarship awarded by the Florida Department of Education and the embassy of Spain to attend Deusto University in Bilbao , Spain . She was also inducted in the Florida Foreign Language Association’s Hall of Fame.
Ms. Beldarrain has published internationally peer-reviewed journal articles on the topic of distance education and is a presenter at national and international conferences. Ms. Beldarrain is a Ph.D. candidate at Capella University specializing in Instructional Design for Online Learning. She earned her M.S. in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University , and her B.S. in Elementary Education from Florida International University .
