Since its beginning, Florida Virtual School has sought to serve the needs of students who needed an alternative source for educational opportunities. As the e-learning manager for twenty counties in Central and Southwest Florida, Ya’Frica Tadesses is enhancing her school’s outreach to new student populations.
Ms. Tadesse brings to her job over eight years of community development experience. Her focus has been on helping students who needed tutoring, mentoring and guidance to successfully address the academic and personal issues of students. Through her ability to identify needs and partner with appropriate community agencies, Ms. Tadesse provided targeted assistance that made a difference.
Her prior work experience includes serving as a community development manager for Educate, Inc., a company that provided after-school tutoring to students in Title I schools. She also served as the department manager for the Youth Education & Prevention Department of the Metro-Orlando Urban League. In that capacity, she directed the delivery of educational services that addressed the development of self-esteem, employability skills, and an informed understanding of appropriate lifestyle choices.
At FLVS, Ms. Tadesse is again an advocate for alternative educational resources. She believes that all students should be provided with optimal learning environments, regardless of their social or economic status. Her goal is to connect a wide diversity of students with the resources available through online learning.
Ms. Tadesse earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Communicative Disorders from the University of Central Florida. She is proud to be a true born and raised Central Floridian. She is also a loyal fan of the Orlando Magic basketball team.
