In Veronica Rashad’s Algebra class,
students discover that Algebra can be challenging and highly
rewarding. With a sense of humor, Ms. Rashad demonstrates the
formulas and mathematic operations that make everything from
building bridges to driving a car possible.
Ms. Rashad believes that
Algebra can be engaging when it is connected to the real world
experiences of students. The key is using hands-on applications
to the tasks and situations students already understand. Applying skills learned
in school was a key part of Ms. Rashad’s, 10-year career as
a general manager for McDonald’s Corporation. As a manager of
some of the busiest McDonald’s in Florida, she made hundreds
of decisions each day. She also taught hundreds of young employees
how to develop work-related skills ranging from customer service
to keeping the workflow going smoothly.
Deciding to become a
teacher in a more formal way, Ms. Rashad began teaching Algebra,
Geometry and Math in 1995. Later, after taking several graduate
courses online, she chose a teaching position at FLVS as a way
to keep the fun alive. Ms. Rashad graduated
Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Resources
Administration from Trinity International University. She later
earned her Master of Science in Mathematics Education, and an
Educational Specialist degree in Education Leadership from Nova
University.
