Terikay Rumancik’s interest in social studies is anchored in her interest in people. Whether the subject is history, politics or geography, people are at the center of the story. And in Mrs. Rumancik’s classes, students are at the center of her teaching.
Mrs. Rumancik’s first experience with teaching occurred when she taught students studying civics in order to take the naturalized citizenship exam. She discovered the excitement of giving people the kind of knowledge that would make a significant difference in their lives. During the most recent years, she has taught at both the high school and middle school levels. Her last teaching assignment prior to joining Florida Virtual School, was at St. Augustine High School in St. Johns County teaching world history, geography and psychology.
The choice of social studies came naturally to Mrs. Rumancik. After earning her undergraduate degree, she began a Congressional internship in Washington, D.C. She has also worked for a national non-profit organization, and as an office manager for a law firm.
Mrs. Rumancik’s approach to teaching involves the whole student, allowing each student the opportunity to incorporate his or her own interests into the subject matter. Her teaching occurs in an atmosphere where students experience success, confidence and enthusiasm for what they learn. Her decision to join the FLVS faculty was prompted by her interest in technology, and by the ability of online technology to provide individualize pacing for instruction.
This year, Mrs. Rumancik will complete her Masters degree in Educational Leadership from the University of North Florida. Her Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science with a minor in Philosophy was also awarded by the University of North Florida.
