Tammy Williams-Hinson tells her students that they are “fantastic and are striving to be fabulous.” In her classes, students learn about themselves as they learn about the subject matter. She gives them the tools and strategies to be successful learners. She also offers them the insights to be confident and successful people in life.
In 2001, Ms. Williams-Hinson was selected by Gadsden County Public Schools as its youngest-ever district teacher of the year. Her ability to connect the experiences of her students with the curriculum made her English classes “laboratories for self-discovery.” By differentiating instruction, Ms. Williams-Hinson continues to ensure that each student finds individual meaning and importance in the concepts and ideas explored in class.
Ms. Williams-Hinson’s love for literature and her passion for writing poetry and fiction are behind her passion for teaching. So is her desire to encourage and inspire students. During the past ten years, she has served as an English teacher and reading coach. Her goal is to help students become life-long readers, writers and thinkers. Today, she continues to inspire students as a member of the Florida Virtual School faculty. She believes that the FLVS model of online instruction provides educators with the opportunity for reaching students academically and socially through individualized instruction and communication.
Among Ms. Williams-Hinson’s other accomplishments, is her reception of an Innovation and Fine Arts Grant from the National Education Association’s Foundation for the Improvement of Education. She is a Nike Foundation Educator Grant Award winner, a recipient of the Wal-Mart Excellence in Education Award, and was profiled in the featured article of the September 2004 Edition of Signal Journal, a publication of the International Reading Association.
Ms. Williams-Hinson earned her Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in English Education and her Master of Education degree in Guidance and Counseling from Florida State University.
