Suzanne Williams likes a good story. And she likes to share it with others. That is why she teaches history and government. Correctly understood, history is about people and their motivations. For Mrs. Williams, the excitement of history lies in its ability to offer complete stories with characters, plots and conclusions. It also provides real insights into who we are today. In Mrs. Williams’ classes, students learn about the choices people made in the past, and the consequences of those choices. There are no dull stories, and students are challenged to offer their own thoughts and ideas. The goal is to put the details of today’s world into perspective, and to help students make informed decisions that will positively affect their future.
Mrs. Williams has been teaching at the high school level for five years. Prior to joining the Florida Virtual School she taught at a traditional school in Flagler County. Her courses have included American History, World History, Government and Economics. She is especially proud of her participation on a team that created curricula to implement the International Baccalaureate program at the traditional school.
Mrs. Williams is enthusiastic about the opportunities provided by online instruction to make history’s stories available to all students regardless of where they live. She values the flexibility provided to students for pacing their learning, and the opportunities offered to teachers for balancing their personal and professional goals.
Mrs. Williams earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Central Florida where she graduated magna cum laude. She lives in Flagler County with her husband and three children.
