FLVS Staff Profile

Susan King

Susan King

AP Computer Science
Florida Virtual School

After a successful programming career working for computer software companies, Susan King decided she wanted to help students prepare for successful careers of their own.  She also wanted to help them become more independent and analytical thinkers.

Learning the syntax and logic of any new language requires guidance from a master who can speak fluently.  Ms. King makes learning a language like Java an enjoyable experience, especially when the computer responds as the program writer planned.  In her classes, students work on real-world problems, using the kinds of professional skills and knowledge needed throughout business and industry.

Ms. King’s experience includes teaching Web Design, Java, Senior Project and AP Computer Science.  Her students have won county and state-level programming competitions. Her goal is for all students to experience success whether the “job at hand” involves research, science experiments, or synthesizing information.

Ms. King believes that FLVS has assembled a high-level team of faculty and staff who know computers and how to teach others about computers.  The environment is one of high expectation that results in high student performance.

Ms. King earned her Masters degree in Educational Technology from the University of Central Florida, and her Bachelors degree in Computer Science from Montana State University.
