Susan Dupree

English II
Florida Virtual School

Susan Dupree says teaching English is the kind of career in which small accomplishments can lead to big results.  For her, every new English language skill that a student acquires can contribute directly to his or her success in school and on the job.

Ms. Dupree loves all aspects of English including literature, writing, and the history of the language.  She has also experienced many of the applications to which English is put including legal writing, creative writing, historical writing, and performance.  Each mode of expression is different, but in all venues language has the power to inform and move people on many levels.  This is the powerful message that Ms. Dupree’s students experience first-hand.

Ms. Dupree has been teaching for the past eighteen years.  In addition to her work with Florida Virtual School, Ms. Dupree has taught English and Drama at Rockledge High School and Edgewood Junior High School in Brevard County, Florida.  She is also certified to teach History and English as a Second Language. Outside of the classroom, she has directed theatre, acted in touring company productions and onboard a cruise ship, and edited government contracts.

Ms. Dupree’s ability to help students develop their own proficiency in communicating ideas and information has resulted in various awards.  She has received the Disney Teacherrific Award for Brevard County in 2003 and 2004.  She also received the MedAbility Visiting Scholar at Oxford Scholarship in 2004.

Ms. Dupree received an Advanced Diploma in Local History from Oxford University in the United Kingdom.  Her Master’s degree in Marketing was awarded by Webster University.  She has two undergraduate degrees from the University of Central Florida, one in Legal Research and Writing, the second in Writing with a specialization in Creative Writing.
