Variety is one of the hallmarks of Sherry Propst’s twelve-year teaching career. And innovation is one of the common themes.

Ms. Propst discovered her enthusiasm for teaching early in life. While involved with 4-H Club activities, she had the opportunity to work with a young girl with Down syndrome. She was inspired by the girl’s desire to succeed. She was also excited about the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life.

With her degree in special education in hand, Ms. Propst taught Language Arts, Social Studies and construction career skills to the exceptional education students at Roosevelt Academy in Lake Wales, Florida. While there, she also served as her school’s computer network manager employing technology to address the needs of individual students. During her time at Roosevelt , she was also the advisor for the yearbook and school newspaper.

Ms. Propst held additional positions in three other Polk County, Florida schools. Her assignments included integrating technology into the curriculum and providing technology training to teachers. She also taught Inclusion Reading, Science and Math. While at Daniel Jenkins Academy in Haines City , Florida , she was selected as her school’s teacher of the year, and later as one of Polk County ’s Teacher of the Year finalists.

Ms. Propst is a National Board Certified Teacher in Career and Technical Education. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Special Education from the University of South Florida .
