Sherry Deresky identifies
the two “loves” that lead her to teaching. She loves learning
and she loves people. Mrs. Deresky also acknowledges her first
grade teacher as a third love by whose example she was drawn
to the profession. From her very first days in first grade,
Mrs. Deresky knew that teaching was her true calling.
During the past ten years,
Mrs. Deresky has taught English and History in schools located
in Florida, Texas and Virginia. Her decision to join the FLVS
faculty was influenced by her belief that distance learning
is the wave of the future. She is especially enthusiastic about
the flexibility that Internet technologies offer to both students
and teachers.
Mrs. Deresky’s choice
of subjects in which to be certified is influenced by yet another
love - the love of reading. She believes that reading gives
students insights into other people as well as a better understanding
of themselves.
Mrs. Deresky believes
her greatest asset as a teacher is her ability to motivate students
and help them value their own accomplishments. It is a skill
that has earned her a nomination to “Who’s Who Among America’s
Teachers.”
Mrs. Deresky earned her
M.Ed. degree in Educational Leadership. Her B.A. degree is in
Middle School Education with an emphasis in English and Social
Studies. Both degrees were awarded by the University of West
Florida.
