Relationship is a key ingredient in Paula Clements’ teaching philosophy. She believes that students can learn anything when there is a bond of trust between them and their teacher. In Mrs. Clements’ class, there is no room for boredom when there is open communication and dialogue.
Originally drawn to a major in business, Mrs. Clements “saw the light” during her junior year in college. From then on, teaching would be her true source of personal and professional satisfaction. Today, after fifteen years as a teacher, the light still shines brightly.
Mrs. Clements’ teaching is motivated by a strong desire to help her students succeed. Her love of reading and writing motivate her choice of subject matter. She has taught Language Arts at Mulberry Middle School in Polk County, Florida, where she was chosen as Teacher of the Year. At Lake Region High School she taught both Reading and English. She also taught English as a Second Language, English, and Math to adult learners at East Area Adult School.
Mrs. Clements’s decision to join the Florida Virtual School faculty was motivated by her desire to work individually with students, concentrating exclusively on their needs and their successes. She is especially proud of the significant gains her students have shown as measured by their performance on FCAT, the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test.
Mrs. Clements earned her Bachelors degree in Secondary English Education from the University of South Florida. She currently serves as the executive secretary of the Florida Council of Teachers of English.
