| "A good online teacher
needs a spirit of adventure," says veteran teacher Nathan
Putney. Mr. Putney believes that good teachers, whether
they teach online or in a classroom, should always enjoy
trying new things.
Throughout his
30-year teaching career, Mr. Putney has made learning
about math and computer programming a lively adventure
for his students. He has taught at both the high school
and community college levels.
Coming to FLVS
in 1999, Mr. Putney used his extensive background to develop
the school's AP Calculus course that he continues to teach.
He believes that flexibility is a significant advantage
of online instruction for both students and teachers.
He also believes that students and teachers benefit from
the enhanced degree of individualization available in
a well-structured online course.
Significant among
Mr. Putney's accomplishments are his achievement of National
Board Certification while a member of the FLVS faculty.
In addition, he has recently received a University of
Central Florida Trustees Doctoral Fellowship allowing
his to pursue his Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction.
Mr. Putney's previous
degrees include a M.Ed. in Mathematics from Clemson University,
and a B.A. in Mathematics from Southern Wesleyan University.
Although he lacks formal training, Mr. Putney also enjoys
snorkeling, biking, and jogging with his family. |
