“I really love my job!” says Mikeal Stansbury. He is referring to his job as the coordinator of Florida Virtual School’s technical support representative team. The team’s goal is to ensure a positive experience for his school’s staff and students whenever they turn on their computers or log on to their courses.

Mr. Stansbury is in a unique position to appreciate the satisfaction offered by his present job at FLVS. He began his formal training at the Navy Nuclear Power School in Orlando, Florida. After graduation, he served onboard a fast attack submarine as an electronic technician with a knowledge of nuclear propulsion plant operation and repair.

After his tour of duty, Mr. Stansbury accepted a position in Hawaii as the director of security at a large waterfront plaza that contained corporate office buildings and entertainment nightspots. It was a job that required a wide variety of people skills and the ability to work from the predawn hours to late at night. Returning to Florida, Mr. Stansbury provided quality control for Time Warner/Road Runner high speed Internet access, worked for Lockheed Martin on airport security, and provided tech support for Dell.

Although Mr. Stansbury claims to be a nerd at heart, he nevertheless has a keen understanding of people, teamwork and customer service. He goes beyond simply solving computer problems for staff and students to giving them the confidence to analyze and solve problems for themselves. In addition, his goal is to help his team members feel a sense of pride in their work, their school, and their individual prospects for the future.

Mr. Stansbury is pleased to use his fifteen years of experience with personal and networked computers to support the mission and goals of FLVS. He believes that FLVS will continue to be on the cutting edge of the blending of technology and education.
