Melissa Collier

Language Arts 3
Florida Virtual School

As a student, and now as a teacher, Melissa Collier has always believed that school can be a wonderful place to satisfy the thirst for knowledge.  It is a place where inspiring teachers can help students acquire a love of reading and writing.  It is also a place where reading and writing can become the tools for lifelong learning.

The desire to share her own positive experience of school led Ms. Collier to share those same experiences with her students.  In addition, her love of reading and writing gave her a special interest in the subject of language arts.  When still a child she began journaling, filling her many journals with her own original stories.  Later as a student, she discovered the stories of other authors whose literature offered new worlds to explore.

Today in Ms. Collier’s class, the process of discovery continues.  Students learn new concepts and achieve new goals.  Under the guidance of their teacher who is both coach and cheerleader, they learn how to understand the new ideas of others, and better understand their own ideas as well.

Ms. Collier taught for six years at Eagle Point Elementary in Broward County, Florida, and at two schools in Fort Worth, Texas.  She joined the faculty at Florida Virtual School because of her interest in working one-on-one with students.  Recognizing that different students have different learning styles, she is pleased to provide highly individualized instruction in a student-centered environment.  In addition to her teaching experience, Ms. Collier has also traveled around the country as a flight attendant for Delta Airlines.

Ms. Collier earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Christian University, where she graduated Cum Laude.
