Marilyn Myers is convinced that every student has potential and can achieve. That is the uncompromising conviction that underlies everything that she, her team, and her Florida Virtual School schoolhouse seek to accomplish.
The word “inspire” summarizes the operating philosophy of Mrs. Myers’ schoolhouse. Inspiring professionalism is the cornerstone of Mrs. Myers’ approach to educational leadership. Inspiration is the asset that is fostered by her faculty’s mutual support for each other. And inspire is the verb that describes how Mrs. Myers’s faculty elicit the highest level of performance from their students.
Many factors have shaped Mrs. Myers’ approach to leadership. She has served as a middle and high school teacher in Duval County, (Jacksonville) Florida. She has served as an assistant principal and as a vice principal. She has provided tutoring and mentoring to beginning teachers, especially in the area of identifying socio-economic factors that impact student performance. And, reflecting her desire for creating positive change, her doctoral dissertation research examines the business processes that define, promote and reinforce a vision of excellence and service in urban educational leadership.
As a FLVS instructional leader, Mrs. Myers seeks to support her school’s goal of meeting the needs of each individual student. Her schoolhouse mirrors the FLVS culture of teamwork, positive relationships, innovation and growth. Mrs. Myers also currently serves as an adjunct professor with the University of Phoenix College of Education.
