Lissa Campbell says that a sense of humor is an essential part of successful teaching.  As a veteran teacher with thirty-two years in the classroom, she has created a successful career that makes learning fun, and teaching exciting.

In addition to good humor, Ms. Campbell’s career has been marked by variety. From George Lucas’ Star Wars to Emily Dickenson’s poems, she believes there is something to be learned from all periods and genres when a skilled teacher stimulates the discussion.  Ms. Campbell is also skilled at a variety of teaching strategies.  Recognizing that each student learns in his or her own way, she differentiates the curriculum to fully engage all students on an individual basis.

Ms. Campbell has taught elementary school students and university students in undergraduate and graduate classes.  At Howard Bishop Middle School in Gainesville, Florida, she taught gifted students in the Academy of Gifted and Technology.  At St. Leo University, she taught students preparing to become teachers.  She has also served as a reading coach for Alachua County Schools, and as a scorer of high school S.A.T. essays.  In keeping with her desire for new adventures, Ms Campbell joined the Florida Virtual School faculty.  She believes that innovative teaching is essential for providing students with 21st century skills.

Ms. Campbell has been the recipient of several instructional grants that she authored.  She also co-authored a technology and science curriculum unit that she presented at the Florida Education Technology Conference in Orlando.  One of her most notable accomplishments was her participation on the NASA Explorer School Team as the Language Arts Liaison for NASA.  In that capacity, she was the first Language Arts teacher to participate in a series of workshops that encouraged other schools to include Reading and Language Arts teachers in the NASA Explorer School Program.

Ms. Campbell earned her Master of Arts degree in Gifted K-12 and Computer Science from Nova Southeastern University.  Her Bachelor of Science degree was awarded by Ball State University.  She has also performed postgraduate work for her Reading Certification K-12 at the University of Florida.
