Florida Virtual School

The students in Kirsten Gilbert Krenicky’s classes enjoy feeling clever. That is because their teacher encourages them to apply new skills and new information in new ways. In much the same way, Mrs. Gilbert likes to try new ways to engage all her students at their individual skill levels.

Serving as a Florida Virtual School faculty member is a natural choice for a pioneering educator who enjoys working one-on-one with students. Earlier in her career, Mrs. Gilbert taught in a multi-age continuous progress classroom. In that setting, she developed a curriculum that spread social studies and science concepts over a two-year period, while integrating those subject areas into the math and language arts curriculum.

Among the many loves of her life is Mrs. Gilbert’s love for reading, her love for literature, and her love for teaching both. Another one of her loves is the reason she is especially pleased to teach at FLVS. At FLVS, caring for her family while also pursuing her teaching career is now much easier because of the flexibility of online instruction.

During her nine-year teaching career, Mrs. Gilbert has taught at several schools in Central Florida, including both Catholic and public. She particularly enjoys exploring the connections between the stories found in books and their depiction on film. It is one the several ways in which she helps students look at the same work through different prisms.

Mrs. Gilbert earned a Master’s degree in Theological Studies from St. Meinrad School of Theology in St. Meinrad, Indiana. Her Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Education were both awarded by the University of Florida.
