Joycelyn Cooper says she believes the computer to be “one of the best inventions of all time.”  For her, the computer is an invention that gives direction to her career.  It is also the invention she wants her students to use with skill and understanding.

Teaching is the other passion that directs Ms. Cooper’s career.  Her goal is to extend her own positive educational experiences as a student to her students today.  Her approach is to use her communication skills and her sense of humor to help students recognize and fulfill their own personal goals.   Her approach also entails demonstrating how a facility with computer technology is an essential asset in attaining present-day and lifelong goals.

Ms. Cooper is also enthusiastic about the ability of online instruction to achieve educational objectives.  As a student with five years of online learning experience, Ms. Cooper recognizes how the Florida Virtual School curriculum enables students to achieve mastery of the subject matter.

Ms. Cooper has taught at multiple grade levels for the past fourteen years.  She has taught 7th and 8th grade Math, 7th grade Language Arts, and 6th grade Science and Reading.  She has also taught in primary school.  She is proud of being recognized in “Who’s Who Among American Teachers, and being chosen as a Disney Teacher of the Year nominee.  However, she considers her greatest accomplishments to be the positive relationships she has developed with her students, many of whom continue to stay in contact throughout their college years.

Ms. Cooper earned her Master of Science degree in Instructional Technology Distance Education from Nova Southeastern University.  Her Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology was awarded by Barry University, and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology was awarded by Florida Atlantic University.  She is currently working on her Ed.S. in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern.
