As one of six siblings, Jill Sherrard quickly learned that sharing and trusting were essential ingredients for family harmony. Today as a teacher, she promotes the same values instilled by her parents in an environment in which students can express their feelings and demonstrate their skills.
In class, Mrs. Sherrard invites students to see the dignity possessed by the characters they meet in literature and by the people they encounter in real life. She demonstrates how great literature transcends ethnicities, boundaries and stereotypes to reveal the motivations of all people. Like her daughter, Hannah, Mrs. Sherrard is also a writer and enjoys the thrill of creating new characters, and getting to know who they are.
For the past eleven years, Mrs. Sherrard has taught in schools in Georgia and Florida. During that time she has won several recognitions including Rookie Teacher of the Year, Most Humorous Teacher, and Best All-Around Teacher. She has taught English I, II, III, and IV, 8 th Grade English and English Honors.
Mrs. Sherrard is familiar with teaching in non-traditional settings. For many years, she taught students unable to attend school because of illness or physical limitations. With the support of her husband, Billy and daughter, Hannah, she earned her Master’s Degree completely online. As a member of the Florida Virtual School faculty, she creates a personal relationship with her students and their parents, while offering the kind of personal attention that recognizes different learning styles.
Mrs. Sherrard earned her Master of Education degree in Instructional Technology from the University of Texas at Brownsville. Her Bachelor of Science degree in English Education 6-12 was awarded by the University of North Florida. She has an advanced placement certification in Language, Literature & Composition, and an endorsement as a teacher of the gifted. Completion of her Educational Doctorate in Teacher Leadership from Walden University is scheduled for 2008.
