Jennifer Pulitano says she “gets lost in books.” In this case, getting lost is a good thing, because it involves getting to know characters, their motivation and the outcomes of their actions. In class with Ms. Pulitano, it also means engaging in lively discussions that make literature come alive.
Ms. Pulitano promises students the opportunity to experience the “joy of reading.” Her goal is to model a love for learning that students will also adopt. She believes that the literacy skills developed in English class are essential for all academic growth and for success in later life.
During her more than twelve years of teaching, Mr. Pulitano has fostered the development of both literacy skills and creative imagination as complementary activities that encourage self-motivated learning. She is pleased to extend her approach to the student-centered learning environment of Florida Virtual School.
Ms. Pulitano’s teaching skills and teaching philosophy were recognized in 2005 when she was named a National Board Certified Teacher. Outside the classroom, her skills and creativity are utilized as the Co-Director of the Broward Arts camp. The camp offers youngsters summertime opportunities to develop their own creativity in the areas of theater, fine arts, music, and movie making. Ms. Pulitano has won grants to enhance student learning including the Citibank Success Grant and the Polaroid Educational Grant.
Ms. Pulitano earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Florida State University. She is certified in English 6-12, and has earned her English as a Second Language endorsement.
