Most people don’t get hired on good looks alone.  They need skills that employers really want.   Teaching those work-related skills and attitudes has been the main focus of Jennifer Goleno’s seven-year teaching career.

Part of Mrs. Goleno’s understanding of what employers want results from her five years of employment at Publix Supermarkets in Lakeland, Florida.  Her last job at Publix was that of cash manager, managing a portfolio valued at approximately 800 million dollars.  Later, she brought her background and experience into the classroom at Kathleen High School in Polk County, Florida, and then to Lakeland High School.

Currently, in addition to her teaching assignment with Florida Virtual School, Mrs. Goleno serves as Lakeland High’s testing coordinator.  As the administrator for tests such as FCAT and PSAT, Mrs. Goleno reminds students and teachers that math and verbal skills are essential for educational and professional success.  As a FLVS teacher, she brings those same important perspectives to her Keyboarding students.

By connecting the classroom with the workplace, Mrs. Goleno brings relevance to her curriculum.  Students recognize that the computer and software skills they acquire will provide direct benefits while still in school and after graduation.  With pride she recalls two former students who went on to earn college degrees in accounting.  Later, one of those students graduated and accepted a job in the Publix accounting department.

Mrs. Goleno earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida.  She is married to her husband Tony, and has three sons Logan, Tyler and Gavin.
