Jason Torres

Adjunct Substitute Teacher
Florida Virtual School

Jason Torres had to choose between teaching Computer Science or English. Both engaged his interest and enthusiasm. In the end, his love of reading and literature brought him to Meadow Woods Middle School in Orange County, Florida as a seventh grade Language Arts teacher.

In addition, as a Florida Virtual School adjunct teacher, Mr. Torres is also able to satisfy his interest in technology. He believes that an integration of appropriate technology and effective pedagogy creates new opportunities for self-paced and student-centered instruction.

Mr. Torres’ approach to teaching encourages students to become critical thinkers and to set goals for themselves. His goal as a teacher is to allow all students as much time as needed to achieve mastery of the subject matter, and acquire the confidence to express their own thoughts and opinions. With a genuine interest in their success, Mr. Torres motivates his students to view learning as a lifelong undertaking.

Mr. Torres also teaches the importance of self-expression by example. His poetry has been published in the literary journal of Southeastern College in Lakeland, Florida.
