Business Systems & Technology Florida Virtual School
For the past 20 years as a teacher, Janice Blackburn has prepared her students for the future. Today as a Business Education teacher, she is giving students the kind of skills they can use today and throughout their working careers.
Ms. Blackburn says she enjoys teaching the kinds of practical and relevant skills that help students become more effective learners and more productive future employees. In her Business Systems & Technology course, students acquire skill with time management, word processing, presentation software, and communications. The instruction is conducted one-on-one, and the teaching is delivered by someone who sincerely cares about her students’ success.
Ms. Blackburn began her teaching career in the Chicago area. Most recently, she has taught in Palm Beach County, Florida. After moving to Florida, she worked as an office manager at an executive search firm. Her interest in the effective use of technology led to her current assignment with Florida Virtual School.
During the 2005-2006 school year Ms. Blackburn was nominated to Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. In 2006 she earned her Office XP Master Certification. She says her greatest accomplishments are to be found in the successes of her students. Many of them have won awards in competitions sponsored by the Future Business Leaders of America student organization that offers a variety of leadership and career development programs.
Ms. Blackburn earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois.
