For more than seven
years, Heather Perkins has enjoyed working with “fun” people:
her students. Having taught Language Arts at several grade levels,
Mrs. Perkins has effectively combined her love for reading and
writing with her sincere interest in students.
Mrs. Perkins’ work as
an FLVS instructor has added a third rewarding dimension to
her teaching: the availability of choices. She believes that
the choices offered by the FLVS curriculum enable students to
take greater responsibility for their education. She also appreciates
the greater flexibility FLVS offers to teachers like her, providing
them time to dedicate to children and family.
Mrs. Perkins believes
that good teachers must be good communicators. When teachers
communicate effectively, students learn not only subject matter,
but also the skills needed to share facts, knowledge and feelings – an essential outcome for any effective English curriculum.
For Mrs. Perkins, good
communications is also a key to positive relationships. In her
English II class, students learn to connect with the dreams
and goals expressed by various authors, while also learning
how to understand and communicate their own.
Mrs. Perkins earned her
Associate of Arts degree from Polk Community College and her
Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Florida
